A man in his 20s has been arrested as part of an investigation into an armed robbery in Co Kildare.

The robbery happened around 7pm on Thursday 28 July when a man armed with a handgun went into a petrol station on the Carlow Road in Athy and demanded cash from a female staff member.

He then fled on foot with an amount of cash.

The man was arrested in the south Kildare town this morning.

He is being held at Newbridge Garda Station.
