An investigation is under way after a human skull was discovered in the back garden of a house in the Killakee area of Firhouse in Dublin.
The skull was discovered yesterday by a man who was carrying out work on the garden of his home.
The Office of the State Pathologist and a forensic anthropologist have been called in to assist gardaí.
Preliminary examination indicates that the skull is believed to be that of an adult aged between 18 and 40 and may have been in the ground for up to 70 years.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
