A man has appeared in court in Dublin charged with having a loaded handgun and a stolen car in the city last Saturday.
Richard O'Reilly, 31, from Windmill Road in Crumlin, was charged with unlawful possession of 14 rounds of ammunition, a Glock 26 handgun and a stolen Volkswagen Golf car at Walkinstown Avenue.
Gardaí from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau searched the car shortly before 3pm on Saturday.
Detective Ian Pemberton of the Garda Drugs and Organised Bureau told the court the accused "made no reply to the charges after caution" when charged last night.
Mr O'Reilly did not address the court and has not yet indicated how he will plead.
Det Pemberton also said he would be objecting to bail.
However, defence solicitor Anarine McAllister told the court there was no application for bail at this stage.
Judge Michael Walsh granted the unemployed man free legal aid and remanded him in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.
A second man arrested as part of the same garda operation was released without charge last night and a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
