Plane makes emergency landing at Dublin Airport
A transatlantic flight made an emergency landing at Dublin Airport this afternoon.
United Airlines flight 31 was travelling from Munich in Germany to Newark in the US. When it was northwest of Donegal, the crew declared an emergency.
The crew advised controllers they had a suspected hydraulic failure and opted not to continue across the Atlantic.
The Boeing 767-300 turned round and routed to Dublin where emergency services had been placed on standby.
The flight landed safely at 3.38pm and was met by fire crews who escorted the aircraft to the terminal.
14 people die after boats capsize in Russia
Fourteen people, mostly children, have died after boats capsized in stormy weather during an outing on a lake in the Republic of Karelia in north-west Russia, the local Emergencies Ministry said today.
It said it had completed search and rescue operations. There were 51 people, including four adults, on the outing.
A police officer said that two of the three boats capsized in Syamozero Lake because of bad weather.
Former contestant on Mexico's 'The Voice' dies after shooting
Alejandro Fuentes, a former contestant on Mexico's version of The Voice, has died in Chicago after being shot.
The singer died yesterday afternoon "due to multiple gunshot wounds," the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
The 45-year-old, who appeared on the show in 2011, was shot after celebrating his birthday on Thursday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Mr Fuentes' death comes 10 days after that of singer Christina Grimmie, a former contestant on NBC's The Voice who died on 10 June after being shot at a concert in Orlando, Florida.
