Gardaí are continuing to question two men in their 30s, linked to the ongoing feud between two criminal gangs in Dublin.
Detectives believe the men, who were arrested yesterday afternoon, were planning to carry out a shooting in the capital.
They were arrested after gardaí intercepted two cars in an operation on the Naas Road.
A loaded Glock 9mm semi-automatic hand gun was found in one of the cars.
Both men are known to be connected to the Kinahan drugs cartel.
One was a close associate of David Byrne who was shot dead in the Regency Hotel last February.
Yesterday's arrests was coordinated by the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.
