A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of taxi driver Martin Mulligan in Dundalk last year.

Mr Mulligan, who was 53, died from stab wounds.

His body was found close to his taxi in the Kilcurry area of Dundalk on 28 September.

The man was arrested tonight in Dundalk. Last month gardaí thanked the public for their assistance and said that "significant progress" had been made in the investigation.

They also said they wanted to talk to two women who he picked up at the taxi rank on Crowe Street in Dundalk town centre at 12.22am less than three hours before his body was found.

Mr Mulligan was a father of two and lived off the Point Road in Dundalk.
