A man and a woman were injured after shots were fired through a window at a house in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened at around 1.40am in Cherry Orchard. A man and a woman, both aged in their 30s, who were in the house at the time received minor injuries.

Both were brought to St James's Hospital but have since been discharged.

Gardaí in Ballyfermot have appealed for witnesses.

Dublin South Central Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh has condemned the attack saying it put innocent lives at risk.

"A lot of young families live in this area," said Mr O'Snodaigh. "Last night's shooting put innocent lives at risk. Every effort must be made to bring the attackers to justice.

"The new government needs to prioritise tackling gun crime in the capital."
