A man has been injured in a gun attack in Derry.

The attack took place in the Ballymagroarty area at around 3.35am.

The 30-year-old man is receiving treatment in hospital for gunshot wounds to his ankles.

The incident in Derry is one of a number of shootings in Northern Ireland in recent days, including the murder of takeaway delivery driver Dan Murray, a 55-year-old father-of-six, in west Belfast on Monday night.

The killing was the fourth gun attack in the city in four days.

PSNI Inspector Gregory Smith appealed for witnesses or anyone with information on the Ballymagroarty shooting to come forward.

Police say they are treating the attack as a paramilitary-style shooting.
