A teenager has been arrested following an alleged hit-and-run in Co Armagh in which a 19-year-old woman was killed.

Lesley-Ann McCarragher was struck by a car as she walked on the Monaghan Road just after 12pm yesterday.

She was airlifted to Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital but died from her injuries.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested.

The City of Armagh High School expressed sadness at the loss of it former student.

A statement on the school's Facebook page said: "The school mourns the passing of past pupil and Head Girl Lesley-Ann McCarragher who passed away early this morning.

"So many people from the school have fond memories of Lesley-Ann and we would like to send our condolences to her family and many friends at this time."

PSNI Detective Inspector Brian Foster issued an appeal for witnesses.
