An appeal for witnesses has been made following a fatal house fire in Co Monaghan in the early hours of Monday morning.

A man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene at St Macartans Villas in Carrickmacross at around 1.30am on 21 March.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses who may have been in the area of Macartans Villas between 7pm on Sunday and 2am on Monday to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042-9690190, the Garda Confidential line 1800-666-111 or any Garda station.
