A man has been arrested in Grenagh, Co Cork after a car was hijacked in the village this morning.

The incident occurred around 7am when a woman stopped her car to assist a man who was standing on the roadside.

The man then threatened her with a knife and then drove away in her car, a dark coloured saloon-type, in the direction of Mallow.

The woman was uninjured in the incident and notified gardaí, who discovered the car around 10am in a ditch on a road between Glanepane and Bweeng.

The man, who is in his early 20s, was arrested a short distance away and is being detained at Gurranabraher Garda Station.
