Gardai have confirmed that the body discovered in the back garden of a house in Castletroy, Co Limerick, yesterday morning is that of missing Polish national Michal Rejmer.
Mr Rejmer, 38, has been missing since 30 December but was only reported missing on Wednesday 6 January.
A post-mortem examination has been completed on the body but gardaí are not releasing details for operational reasons.
Gardaí are continuing to question a 34-year-old woman, who it is understood knew the victim, about the circumstances leading to his death.
A technical examination of the scene is continuing.
Gardaí have said that the forensics, along with the results of the post mortem, are forming a crucial part of their investigation.
