Outsourcing company Voxpro and the Bon Secours private hospital have announced they are to create almost 500 new jobs in separate expansion plans.
Voxpro is hiring an additional 400 staff, bringing employee numbers there to 1,400 by this time next year.
Voxpro, established 20 years ago, has experienced massive growth since it won a contract to provide technical support to Google in 2009.
At that stage it had 40 employees. Six years on it has just under 1,000.
This afternoon Taoiseach Enda Kenny visited Voxpro, announcing the recruitment of 400 additional staff over the next 12 months.
Mr Kenny said: "The creation of 400 new jobs by Voxpro is fantastic news for Cork and a boost to the reputation of the South West region as a growing hub for innovative companies.
The Government is determined to maintain a positive environment for enterprise to grow and create new jobs so that we can keep the recovery going."
Most jobs will be graduates offering support across a range of languages.
Across the city, the Bons Secours hospital group has announced a major expansion with an additional 75 jobs to be added there.
The Taoiseach is due there this afternoon to open its medical assessment unit.
The group is expected to announce further recruitment there on the back of an investment worth tens of millions of euro.
