Three men have been arrested in Limerick as part of an investigation into dissident republican activity.
Armed gardaí from the Special Detective Unit and the Emergency Response Unit stopped and searched two cars at Kyletaun, Rathkeale shortly before 2am.
During the course of the search of a car believed to have been stolen, a firearm and ammunition, subject to ballistic examination, were discovered and seized.
Three men, aged in their mid 20s to late 30s, were arrested and are currently being detained at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
They are suspected members of the Real IRA and can be questioned for up to 3 days.
