Workers at IO Systems have voted in favour of measures to end their dispute with An Post over rostering arrangements and pay.

The workers, who maintain and service mail sorting equipment at four mail sorting centres, announced the decision to take strike action over reduced pay since earlier this month.

Following a vote in Portlaoise this afternoon, the settlement measures were accepted by 23 votes to five.

The settlement includes revised agreed shift patterns and changes to pay levels including shift premiums.

One outstanding issue, on the level of shift premium to apply from September 2016, will be referred to the Labour Court for a binding decision.

Commenting on the decision Communications Workers Union General Secretary Steve Fitzpatrick said: "We are satisfied that the recent negotiations have delivered a fair result.

"However, we are disappointed that the implications of the dispute for the public were unnecessarily escalated by the actions of An Post mail management."
