A 27-year-old fisherman has died after he was overcome by fumes while working on a trawler in Co Donegal.
James Joyce, who is from Inis Mór, Co Galway, died around 10.30pm on Monday in Letterkenny General Hospital.
Another fisherman, a 46-year-old from the Philippines who was also overcome by fumes in the incident, is in a serious condition in the same hospital.
The men were cleaning tanks in a refrigeration unit on the Galway-registered 'Oileán an Óir' in Killybegs when the incident occurred.
Mr Joyce fell into the hold. His Filipino colleague called for help from other crew members but was overcome himself as he tried to aid Mr Joyce.
The incident is being investigated by officers from the Marine Casualty Investigation Board.
Mr Joyce was also a member of the Aran Islands lifeboat crew. He served with it for two years and rejoined it last month.
