A paralympic athlete who had his carbon fibre blade stolen is to receive a replacement one tomorrow ahead of competing in an international event next week.
Shane McLaughlin had his blade stolen from his car outside his home in Clonkeencole in Clones, Co Monaghan on 5 June.
The 42-year-old is due to compete in the Berlin Open, an international paralympic competition which begins on 19 June.
The athlete, who had his left leg amputated in 2012, will be fitted with his new paralympic blade at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire.
The blade is being provided by Ability Matters.
Speaking to RTÉ News Mr McLaughlin said: "It is good news but it will be a hard road ahead.
"We have to see if it fits first, and then I'll have to break it in. Berlin will be very tough."
Gardaí are continuing to investigate the theft and have appealed for anyone with information to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047-77200.
