Firefighters in Limerick have attended to a blaze which broke out near the main N21 road in the village of Adare today, causing extensive damage to at least two thatched cottages. 

Units from Rathkeale, Foynes, Newcastle West and Limerick City attended the scene of the fire, which is understood to have broken out around 1pm.

Roads have been reopened however motorists are advised to expect delays in the area.
