Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a woman's body in Co Mayo, in a house close to the Galway border.
Emergency services were called to the house at Ballycurrin, near Glencorrib, shortly after 4pm.
The woman, who was in her late 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The house has been sealed off pending a full technical examination and the office of the State pathologist has been notified.
The woman's body remains at the scene and gardaí say the results of a post-mortem examination will determine the course of their inquiry.
No arrests have been made and gardaí are understood to be keeping an open mind as to the cause of death at this stage.
