Nursing Homes Ireland, which represents nursing homes in the country, has accused the State of covering up the cost of public nursing home care.

The association claims the State continues to refuse to divulge the fee paid for nursing home care, under the Fair Deal scheme.

The CEO of the Nursing Homes Ireland, Tadhg Daly, has said the most recently published figures from 2011 show the average cost was €1245 per week per resident in HSE nursing homes.

This he says was 40% above that applied for private and voluntary counterparts.
