Temple Street Hospital said it will look at additional security measures for staff after a nurse had her car stolen.

The incident took place at 6.30am yesterday when the nurse, who was on night duty, left the hospital's staff car park to move her car to on-street parking.

She was approached as she walked back to the hospital by a man who allegedly threatened her before taking her keys.

In a statement, the hospital said that because Temple Street is an inner city hospital, there is no public car park and very limited unofficial staff car parking which is used by night staff, who then free up spaces for day staff at shift changes.

It said that security staff who man the Emergency Department are generally available to walk out of the hospital with anyone at night or very early morning if requested.

It described yesterday’s incident as "very unfortunate" but said it was an isolated one.

Gardaí said the nurse’s car was later found burnt out in the Store Street/Railway Road area.

The woman was uninjured and the investigation is continuing.
