The 27-year-old man who was shot dead in Dublin yesterday morning may have been under surveillance by his killers.

Paul Kavanagh, a father-of-two from Drimnagh, was shot several times as he sat in his car after it was rammed on Church Avenue in Drumcondra.

Gardaí believe his murder is linked to organised crime

Mr Kavanagh lived nearby with his partner and children.

He had just driven away from his home in a Volkswagen Passat when his car was rammed from behind by two men in an Audi A3.

Two gunmen in dark clothes and balaclavas fired several shots at him and he died at the scene

The gunmen crashed their car as they tried to escape but set it alight before running off towards Tolka Park

Detectives at Ballymun are trying to establish a motive for the murder which they believe is linked to organised crime

They are following a number of lines of inquiry including the possibility that it was retaliation for the murder of a Ballymun man a year-and-a-half ago.

Detective are also investigating whether it is connected to the activities of an international crime gang in Spain’s Costa Del Sol, which is headed by an Irish drug dealer.
