A 23-year-old man has been found guilty of dangerous driving causing the death of a father of four in Co Kerry in July 2012.

Shane Fitzgerald from Meelin in Co Cork had denied the charge during a four-week trial at the Circuit Criminal Court in Tralee.

The jury had been told that 42-year-old Paud O'Leary died close to his home at Gneeveguilla in east Kerry when he was knocked from his bicycle during an early morning training cycle.

He had been preparing to take part in the following week's Ring of Kerry charity cycle.

After deliberating for just over three hours, the jury found Fitzgerald guilty of dangerous driving causing Mr O'Leary's death.
