The Kilkenny animation studio Cartoon Saloon is heading to Hollywood this weekend ahead of this year's Academy Awards.

Its film 'Song of the Sea' is in the running for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars on 22 February.

The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea but become humans on land.

Cartoon Saloon was nominated for an Oscar in the same category in 2010 for "The Secret of Kells".

The studio says "two for two is pretty amazing".

In this interactive video Philip Bromwell meets two of the film's creators, Paul Young and Nora Twomey.

By touching or clicking graphics on screen, you will be able to explore extra content without leaving the video.

The interactivity works best on modern browsers like Chrome, Safari, Firefox and IE11 on desktop and tablet. The format is compatible with most Android smartphones but will play without interactivity on iPhones.
