A search for the remains of missing woman Fiona Pender, who disappeared 18 years ago, has been called off.

The search of an area of land at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in County Laois concluded yesterday evening after no remains were found.

Fiona Pender, a 25-year-old hairdresser from Offaly, was seven months pregnant when she went missing from her flat at Church Street in Tullamore on 22 August 1996.

The latest search began earlier this month after gardaí received new information.
