More than a thousand people in Dublin have broken the world record for the largest gathering of people in Christmas jumpers.

1,297 people took part in the Geansaí Nollaig World Record attempt on O' Connell Street in the city centre this afternoon.

Organisers say the turnout has beaten last year's record by 420.

The money raised is going to the Make a Wish Foundation.

Prizes were awarded for the best Christmas jumpers.

Dublin Lord Mayor Christy Burke turned on the Christmas lights, aided by one of the winners of the Make a Wish Foundation.
