Strong to gale force winds swept across the country last night and this morning, as the tail end of Hurricane Gonzalo brought gusts of up to 120km/h to some exposed areas.
A number of ferry services and flights were cancelled as a result.
Intending passengers were advised to check with their travel company for information.
P&O Ferries said normal services from Larne and Cairnyan were to resume at 8pm, with new bookings being accommodated from midnight onwards.
Services between Liverpool and Dublin are still experiencing disruptions due to the weather conditions and passengers are asked to contact the P&O reservation centre on 01304 448877 for further information.
The Arranmore Ferry company in Donegal cancelled all sailings for today from Burtonport to the island, due to rough seas and strong winds.
The Fast Ferry company also cancelled its sailings to and from Arranmore.
The island's schools were closed because teachers were unable to make their way to work from the mainland.
Elsewhere, a woman died after a tree fell into a street in Kensington in London during high winds caused by the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo.
