An Irishman will face trial in Australia for the murder of another Irishman after prosecutors rejected his guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Vincent Martin Crowe is accused of murdering 21-year-old Kenny Meyler at a house in Scarborough, a Perth suburb, on 10 February last year.
Police originally arrested Mr Crowe and charged him with grievous bodily harm with intent, but the charge was later changed to murder.
In the Western Australia Supreme Court today, the jury was told Mr Crowe had admitted to manslaughter but that was not accepted by the prosecution.
Opening submissions are set to begin in the trial tomorrow, which is expected to last two weeks.
