A man and a woman, both aged in their 30s, have been injured in a shooting in Limerick. 

It happened at the Castleview estate in Newcastle West at 3.15pm this afternoon. 

Gardaí say a gunmen approached the pair and opened fire. 

He then fled the scene in a car, which is believed to have been driven by a second man. 

The injured man was airlifted to Cork University Hospital and the woman was taken to University Hospital Limerick. 

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. 

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
