A 41-year-old woman has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of a man in Rathfarnham in south Dublin. 

Mercy Peters who had been staying for some time in the Rathfarnham area was before Dublin District Court charged with the murder of 42-year-old Tyrone McKenna. 

Evidence of her arrest, charge and caution at Dundrum Garda Station was given to the court by Detective Garda David Bunn.

He asked that she be remanded in custody and sent for immediate psychiatric assessment. 

Judge Michael Coghlan remanded Ms Peters to be brought before the District Court again next Thursday at 10.30am. 

Mr McKenna was found dead in his home at Marley Court, in Rathfarnham on Thursday. 

It is understood he had sustained a stab wound to his back.
