A woman's body has been discovered in a campervan in the village of Corofin in Co Clare.

The body was discovered at around 3.30pm this afternoon when gardaí went to the small campsite in the village after concern had been expressed to them that the woman had not been seen since Sunday.

It is understood the woman was aged in her 60s and had travelled to visit the area from England last week.

Fire personnel were also called to the scene as there was a smell of gas at the location.

The woman's body was removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.

The campervan is being technically examined by gardaí as part of their investigation.

However, they do not believe at this stage there are any violent or suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
