The Government is to move to end the bankruptcy bar whereby undischarged bankrupts cannot serve as TDs, Senators or MEPS.
The change will be contained in amendments to the Electoral Act 2014 and should be in place before the May elections.
Currently, bankrupts may legally contest local elections, but not Dáil or European elections.
Local and European elections are to be held on 23 May.
Nominations for the local elections will open on 26 April and close on 3 May.
