The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of an Irishman who died in Australia.

Kevin Terence Brown reportedly died after falling from a tourist attraction in the Queensland town of Mount Isa.

Superintendent Russell Miller told the Irish Echo that police are still investigating how Mr Browne  gained access to the Hard Times tourist attraction.

He said: “The area where he was found, there is a six foot fence around it. But it would appear he was able to get in.

“There’s a mining gantry which is quite high so he would have had to climb security barriers there as well.

“Maybe he was having a bit of a look around and may have slipped."
