Met Éireann has said there is a risk of more dust from the Sahara desert washing down as spots of mud across the country in the coming days.

It follows incidents of cars along the east and southeast coasts being coated in a film of reddish brown dust deposited during rainfall on Saturday night.

The rain dust was reported in parts of Dublin, Kildare and Meath, with western parts of England and Wales also affected.

Met Éireann said the dust was mostly likely from the Sahara desert.

Last night saw strong winds over North Africa, which led to sand being displaced and following a path up through parts of Europe.
