The sentence hearing for a Cork mother who pleaded guilty to killing her eight-year-old son has been adjourned to 7 April.

Diane Ward of Harrison Place, Charleville, Co Cork, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her son Anthony at their home on 3 September 2012.

A post mortem showed he died from asphyxiation.

Last week, his 43-year-old mother appeared at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin, where the court was told her plea to manslaughter was accepted by the prosecution.

She was remanded in custody for sentence today.

However, the court was told this morning that it was a "complicated matter" and the prosecution needed more time to prepare for the sentence hearing.
