A woman has been killed in a shooting in Tallaght in Dublin.

A second woman, believed to be in her 30s, and a man were injured in the incident.

The shooting happened at a house in Killinarden Place before 4pm.

It is understood that a man went into a house and shot dead a woman in her 60s and shot her daughter in the face.

The man is believed to be known to the women but is not a relative.

The injured woman was taken to Tallaght Hospital. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

The gunman was reportedly attacked by neighbours.

Gardaí arrested a man in his 50s at the scene. He was taken to St James's Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A shotgun was found at the scene.

The area has been sealed-off for a technical examination.

The State Pathologist Office has been informed and the woman's body remains at the scene.

Gardaí at Tallaght Garda Station are appealing for witnesses with any information to come forward.

They are investigating all lines of inquiry but believe at this initial stage that the incident could be connected to a dispute among neighbours.
