Dublin man Graham Dwyer, who is accused of murdering childcare worker Elaine O'Hara, has been refused bail at the Central Criminal Court.
Mr Dwyer, 41, of Kerrymount Close in Foxrock is charged with the murder of Ms O'Hara, 37, in Co Dublin on 22 August 2012.
A trial date has been set for April 2015.
Ms O'Hara's remains were found in the Dublin mountains on 13 September 2013.
Applying for bail, Mr Dwyer's barrister Remy Farrell said it was unreasonable that his client would be in custody for around 20 months before his trial.
However, Seán Guerin for the State said that the delay was not exceptional at this time.
He noted that a person in custody for several months had his trial adjourned that morning due to a shortage of judges.
"He will have a trial within 19 months of his arrest," he said.
"If an earlier date becomes available, the prosecution is ready to proceed."
Mr Justice Paul Carney refused bail.
