The first opinion poll of the New Year shows a drop in support for the main Government parties.

Compared to the last Red C Poll in November, today's Red C poll for Paddy Power shows Fine Gael at 28%, down one percentage point.

Labour is at 10%, a drop of two percentage points while Fianna Fáil is unchanged at 22%.

Sinn Fein is up three percentage points at 18%, and Independents and others are unchanged at  22%.

Today's poll, conducted from a nationwide sample earlier this week, shows that the gains made by Fine Gael and Labour last November, as the Government prepared to exit the EU-IMF bailout programme have been short-lived.

The biggest gain is for Sinn Féin with a 3% increase.
