Praveen Halappanvar's solicitor has confirmed that Minister for Health James Reilly has invited Mr Halappanvar to meet him.

The development came ahead of candle light vigils in Galway, Dublin and Cork to mark the first anniversary of the death of Savita Halappanavar.

The 31-year-old, who was 17 weeks pregnant, died of septicaemia at University Hospital Galway on 28 October last year.

Solicitor Gerard O'Donnell said that Mr Halappanavar had been seeking a meeting with Minister Reilly for some time.

It is hoped the discussions will take place early next month.
