An attack on a mosque has killed the governor of Logar Province south of the Afghan capital, officials said.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack on governor Arsala Jamal on the first day of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
Insurgents have stepped up attacks on officials linked to the government ahead of the withdrawal next year of foreign combat troops.
A spokesman for the governor's office said the explosion was set off by a remote controlled device. Police said the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.
