The latest opinion poll shows the public are almost evenly divided on the future of the Seanad.

Tomorrow's Sunday Independent/Millward Brown poll shows support for abolition of the house stands at 39 per cent - up two points since the last poll.

It is the first increase in support for abolition in this series of polls.

Thirty three per cent favour reforming the Seanad while seven per cent favour retaining it as is.

Taken together the findings show those in favour of keeping the Seanad in some form stands at 40 per cent with 39 per cent wanting abolition - a one point margin.
