A 21-year-old man has died in a road crash in Co Monaghan, after the car he was driving hit a tree at about 9.30am.
The single-vehicle crash happened on the N54 between Monaghan town and Smithborough.
The driver was the sole occupant of the car.
He was taken to Cavan General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the accident or anyone who was on the section of road at the time of the incident to contact them at Monaghan Garda Station on 047-77200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111, or any garda station.
Meanwhile, the latest garda figures indicate that 119 people have died in road crashes so far this year, an increase of eight compared to the same period in 2012.
Chief Superintendent Michael O'Sullivan has said excessive or inappropriate speed has played a significant factor in collisions.
He urged motorists to slow down and ensure seatbelts are worn by all road users.
Supt O'Sullivan also said motorcycle fatalities were up one to 17, accounting for almost 15% of the total number of road deaths.
