Cigarettes and tobacco worth an estimated €30,000 were seized at Dublin Airport this week.

Over 20,400 cigarettes and 57.50kg of tobacco, with a potential loss to the Exchequer of €23,000, were found in baggage on Tuesday.

A 40-year-old Danish passport holder, who had arrived on a flight from Baghdad, was arrested.

He appeared before Judge Michael Walsh yesterday, who remanded him in custody to appear again tomorrow at the Criminal Courts of Justice.

The cigarettes included Marlboro, Gauloises, Aspen and Kents.

It is the 13th arrest at Dublin Airport this year in relation to cigarette and tobacco smuggling offences.
