A man and a woman have drowned in separate incidents in counties Cork and Donegal.

The body of a man in his early 20s was recovered from the water off Castletownbere in Co Cork.

He had been reported missing last night.

His body was recovered at around 3pm and was taken back to the coast by the Castletownbere lifeboat.

The Shannon based Coast Guard helicopter and the Castletownbere Coast Guard Unit were also involved in the operation.

Separately, a woman's body has been found at Dunaff Head north of Inishowen, Co Donegal.

The body was found in Rockstown Bay by gardaí at around 5.30pm.

Malin Head coastguard has also search the area amid fears of a further casualty.

The woman's death brings to 12 the number of people who have died in drowning related incidents in recent weeks.
