The chairman of the board of management at a primary school in Dublin has resigned after he arranged for leaflets promoting a Vigil for Life rally to be distributed to students.
Eddie Shaw said he had decided to resign from his post at the Harold School in Glasthule.
Mr Shaw unreservedly apologised to teachers and parents for the deep distress and upset caused by his actions.
He said he alone was responsible.
The leaflets promoted the Vigil for Life rally that was held on 8 June.
Mr Shaw is a former spokesperson for the retired Archbishop of Dublin Dr Desmond Connell.
Fine Gael TD Mary Mitchell-O'Connor, who is a former principal of the school, said she was taken aback and disappointed by the news.
Ms Mitchell-O'Connor said she feels strongly that this type of information should not be put out through school children.
She said Mr Shaw was a good chairman over the years, but that he has made a major mistake and has resigned because of it.
