A 17-year-old boy is in a serious condition in hospital after getting into difficulties while swimming in north Cork.
The boy was swimming in the river Blackwater with a group of friends at a local bathing area known as Lisheen Bridge when he got into difficulties.
It’s understood the teenager was in the water for some time before he was located.
Gardaí and two ambulance crews rushed to the scene near the village of Knocknagree.
There were difficulties accessing the area and an Air Corps helicopter also provided assistance.
The boy was airlifted to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee.
Separately a woman has been airlifted to hospital after she fell while climbing near Killarney.
The German national was with a group close to the top of Torc mountain when she fell and injured her ankle.
She was airlifted off the mountain by members of the Kerry mountain rescue.
