Two men have died in what is believed to be a drowning incident at a disused quarry in Co Down.

An operation to recover the bodies of the two men from the disused quarry at Glasdrumman Road, Annalong is underway.

The PSNI say an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Local people say this evening's accident happened in a place known locally as Paul's Quarry, near the Head Road, three miles from the village.

The indications are the victims are a boy in his teens who was swimming and a visitor who went to the teenager's aid when he got into difficulties.
