Eight people, including a former Eurovision singer, have been brought to a special sitting of Carrick-on-Suir District Court this evening following a row on a street in the town yesterday morning.

Of the eight, six have addresses in Clonmel, one in Fethard in Co Tipperary and one in Tramore.

Michael Sweeney Snr, Michael Sweeney Jnr, John Paul McCarthy, Thomas McCarthy,Lee Ahern and Addey Ahern all have addresses Clonmel.

Bernard Cawley has an address at Fethard Co Tipperary and Chris Doran from Tramore; 

Each face one charge of violence or threatening to use violence in an incident shortly after 9am yesterday in Sean Kelly square.

Three of the eight were arrested in Carrick-On-Suir while the other five were arrested in Clonmel.

Chris Doran won the 'You're A Star' competition on RTE in 2004 and represented Ireland in the Eurovision in Istanbul that year, finishing second last.

He was remanded on bail on his own bond of €500 and is due back in court on 4 July.

All eight have been remanded on bail under certain conditions and are due back in court in July.

The court was told other charges may follow in relation to the incident
