Five people are being questioned in Co Cork as part of an investigation into fraudulent insurance claims.
The three men and two women were arrested this morning in an operation involving the Organised Crime and Fraud units, as well as local detectives.
Gardaí believe tens of thousands of euro have been fraudulently claimed from insurance companies through staged road crashes.
In some cases detectives believe money has been paid out on claims, both for material damage to vehicles and for personal injuries.
It is believed there is an organised crime involvement in the staged crashes.
Five people were arrested at locations in Munster in the first phase of Operation Nascar in February.
Another seven were detained at stations in the Midlands and Cork in mid-March.
The three men and two women arrested this morning in phase three of the operation are aged between 20 and 40.
They are being held at a number of garda stations in Co Cork.
