Dublin City Council has said it has seen an improvement in water levels thanks to restrictions put in place on Thursday.

Council spokesman Alan Breen said an analysis was carried out this morning, which showed additional capacity in the Stillorgan reservoir.

However, restrictions on the water supply will remain in place in Dublin city this weekend.

Householders and businesses may find weak pressure from tap flows or, in some cases, no supply from 10pm tonight until up to 9am tomorrow morning.

The measures are being taken to try to conserve water because of the increased number of leakages during the cold snap and a problem with the water treatment plant in Roundwood, Co Wicklow.

Dublin City Council officials will conduct a review on Tuesday.
